ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT.
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency working to create a world with zero hunger. To get to a world with Zero Hunger faster, WFP is investing in and growing partnerships and fundraising operations with the private sector, to leverage the private sector’s expertise, technology, and networks to reach more people. The Private Sector Partnerships Division (PSP) is responsible for engaging the private sector (corporations, individuals, foundations)
through high-impact partnerships in support of WFP's strategic priorities, and through individual giving to build and retain support from the public worldwide.
PSP strives to mobilize funding, technical assistance, innovative solutions and visibility and awareness to help WFP fulfil its mission and operations. From WFP’s headquarters in Rome, PSP also provides guidance to WFP Regional Bureau (RB), Country Offices (COs) and HQ Functional Units on partnership development, best practices, compliance and rules and regulations for engaging with the private sector.
Starting in 2020, WFP embarked upon a new private sector partnerships and fundraising strategy, focusing on growing WFP’s.
cooperation with the business sector, foundations, and individuals.
WFP is committed to growing private sector fundraising with a focus on individual giving.
It is recognized as a fundraising channel that has been successfully used by other UN agencies for whom it generates the bulk of their private sector income. In addition, individual giving can provide a high proportion of unrestricted income which is critical to supporting the long-term goals of country strategic plans (CSPs). Private Sector Partnerships Division (PSP)is committed to foster individual giving as a significant strategy for growth during 2025-2030. The proposed focus of the development of individual giving is through a digital-first strategy and as part of this WFP has upgraded its systems and infrastructure to receive and process donations from individuals as well as the systems to store and manage supporter information. The aim being that WFP can engage with supporters in their preferred channels and maximize their long-term support for the cause of zero hunger through seamless constituent experience.
PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT.
Salesforce is the main technology underpinning the donation process and managing individual supporters. Since implementation,
the transition of individual giving to Salesforce has been completed, and the new IT architecture has been defined and implemented including Salesforce Sales for data repository; Salesforce Marketing Cloud for marketing automation; GoDonate Payment Platform as SaaS donation platform, Stripe, and PayPal as payment systems.
Since the appointment of the WAE consultant, the digital-first individual giving programme new technology initiatives were introduced and improved as part of the 18 months roadmap:
• revamp of donation platform to provide better supporter experience.
• discovery of customer data management platform to understand and enhance supporter base.
• optimization of campaigns tracking through various component of the tech stack underpinning individual giving programme
• Strategic review of Salesforce to enable optimization of solutions and maximize performance of supporters.
This required careful consideration of the solutions available in the market as well as methodical assessment of the applicability and interoperability with components of the existing tech stack.
In addition, the aim of this position is to continue to lead, manage and develop a high-performing team in the delivery of solutions and implementation of strategic initiatives in support of the goals and priorities of the wider Individual Giving (IG) Acquisition and Supporter Experience (retention and growth) teams. The incumbent will effectively manage priorities and resources to ensure delivery of technology systems and enhancements that enable achievement of business objectives of the Individual Giving team within Private Sector Partnerships division. Acting as the subject matter expert, the Senior Solution Architect will deliver IG Technical Roadmap including the presentation of plans and actions to leadership and executive teams, engagement with vendors and internal UN WFP process governance as required.
The position will report to the Head of International Individual Giving of PSP and working closely with peers and project teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Interact with the users and other stakeholders to determine the end-to-end business processes and collaborate in building business requirements to cater for business needs.
• Generate the consistent, complete, and correct technical requirements, based on the users’ needs and other constraints.
• Generate products such as prototypes and early user guides to keep the users constantly up to date and in agreement on the system to be provided as it is evolving.
• Perform cost–benefit analysis making maximum use of WFP corporate tools, commercial off-the-shelf or already developed components.
• Develop data pipeline and streaming integrations with application databases, APIs, and vendors.
• Collaborate with Individual Giving tech team and corporate TECH division,
so that any problems and data gaps arising during design, implementation or maintenance can be resolved in accordance with the fundamental design concepts, and users' needs and constraints.
• Ensuring that a maximally robust and extensible solution design is developed.
• Ensure that all architectural products and products with architectural input are maintained in the most current state and never allowed to seriously lag or become obsolete.
• Contribute to the development of the IG tech team documentation including roadmap, tech/data strategy, project plans and other as required.
• Other duties as required.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT
Solution designs of the donation platform, tracking campaigns and others as required are signed off by stakeholders and kept up to date.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
Education
▪ Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Software Engineering, Computer
Science, or related field.
Work history
▪ 12+ experience in engineering and software architecture design.
Technical skills
▪ Professional experience with architecting solutions for digital marketing.
▪ Demonstrable digital marketing solution architecture planning and design skills.
▪ Experience with big data technology (Hadoop, Apache Spark, MapReduce, etc.), data modelling, relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or equivalent), cloud technologies (RDS, S3, Kinesis, or equivalent)
▪ Expert SQL skills
▪ Hands-on experience in implementing integrations to 3d party systems and data bases.
▪ Previous project management experience is advantageous.
▪ Sound knowledge of various operating systems and databases.
▪ General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations, and procedures governing administration is an asset.
